2.1.9 Angiras to Shaunaka

ataḥ samudrā girayaśca sarve'smātsyandante sindhavaḥ sarvarūpāḥ | ataśca sarvā oṣadhayo rasaśca yenaiṣa bhūtaistiṣṭhate hyantarātmā ||

From him come all the oceans and mountains; from him flow rivers of every kind; from him come all plants and the sap by which this inner Self abides within the elements.

Meaning today and context

The oceans, the mountains and the very sap of plants share a source with the self within us. Seeing nature this way invites reverence rather than mere use.

Aṅgiras completes the picture of creation (Mundaka 2.1.9): oceans, mountains, rivers, plants and their sap all come from the Person, who dwells in all beings as their inner Self.
