Taking up the great weapon, the bow of the Upanishad, fit to it the arrow sharpened by constant meditation. Drawing it back with a mind absorbed in that, pierce, dear one, that very target, the imperishable.
Meaning today and context
Teaching alone is like a bow without an arrow; practice alone is an arrow without a bow. Understanding, a mind sharpened by regular practice, and wholehearted focus have to come together to reach what one aims at.
Mundaka 2.2.3. Angiras begins the famous image of the bow and arrow: the Upanishad is the bow, the mind sharpened by meditation is the arrow, and the imperishable is the target.
