12.168.15 A brahmin to Senajit

yathā kāṣṭhaṃ ca kāṣṭhaṃ ca sameyātāṃ mahodadhau | sametya ca vyapeyātāṃ tadvadbhūtasamāgamaḥ ||

As one log and another meet on the great ocean, and having met, drift apart, so is the coming together of beings.

For someone freshly bereaved, acknowledge the loss first; the verse does not forbid mourning or love. If grief feels unbearable or you think of harming yourself, call Tele-MANAS 14416.

Every meeting in life, with parents, partners, children and friends, is for a time. Knowing this does not make love less; it makes each meeting more precious.

Mahabharata 12.168.15: The brahmin gives Senajit the image of two logs that meet on the great ocean and drift apart: so is the meeting of beings.
