kiṃ cideva mamatvena yadā bhavati kalpitam | tadeva paritāpārthaṃ sarvaṃ saṃpadyate tadā ||

Whenever anything at all comes to be imagined as 'mine', that very thing, all of it, then becomes a source of torment.

Meaning today and context

The moment we stamp 'mine' on something, we start fearing for it. Using and caring for things without that grip spares us much worry.

Mahabharata 12.168.41: The brahmin says whatever one imagines as 'mine' becomes, in its entirety, a source of torment.
