12.168.43 A brahmin to Senajit

ubhe satyānṛte tyaktvā śokānandau bhayābhaye | priyāpriye parityajya praśāntātmā bhaviṣyasi ||

Giving up both truth and untruth, grief and joy, fear and fearlessness, letting go of the dear and the not dear, you will become one whose self is at peace.

Giving up 'truth and untruth' refers to going beyond all pairs of opposites in liberation; it is not permission to lie or be dishonest in daily life.

Meaning today and context

Deep peace lies beyond the opposites the mind keeps swinging between. This is about not being ruled by pairs of feelings and judgments, not about dropping honesty.

Mahabharata 12.168.43: The brahmin tells Senajit that by giving up both truth and falsehood, grief and joy, fear and fearlessness, the dear and the not dear, he will become peaceful.
