वतातपसहो ग्रीष्मे न च धर्ममविन्दत । दुःखशय्याश्च विविधा भूमौ च परिवर्तनम् ॥
vatātapasaho grīṣme na ca dharmamavindata | duḥkhaśayyāśca vividhā bhūmau ca parivartanam ||
in summer he bore wind and blazing sun; yet he did not find dharma. He lay on painful beds of many kinds, and rolled on the bare ground.
गर्मी में वह हवा और धूप सहता; फिर भी उसे धर्म नहीं मिला। तरह-तरह की कष्टदायक शय्याओं पर वह लेटता और भूमि पर लोटता।
The austerities described here (fasting, living on air, exposure to rain and cold) are part of the story, and the story itself says they did not bring him dharma. They are not health or dietary advice.
