iṣṭāniṣṭavimuktasya prītirāgabahiṣkṛtaḥ | tulā me sarvabhūteṣu samā tiṣṭhati jājale ||

Freed from liked and disliked, beyond fondness and passion, my scale stands level toward all beings, Jājali.

Meaning today and context

A merchant's scale must be honest for everyone, friend or stranger. Holding our inner scale level, not tilted by likes and dislikes, is the image of a fair mind.

Tulādhāra, the merchant of Vārāṇasī, speaking to the proud ascetic Jājali (Bhīṣma narrates to Yudhiṣṭhira) (12.254.12). His name means 'holder of the scales', and he plays on it.
