12.254.46 Tuladhara to Jajali

ṛṣayo yatayo hyetannahuṣe pratyavedayan | gāṃ mātaraṃ cāpyavadhīrvṛṣabhaṃ ca prajāpatim | akāryaṃ nahuṣākārṣīrlapsyāmastvatkṛte bhayam ||

Seers and ascetics told this to Nahuṣa: 'You have killed the cow, who is a mother, and the bull, who is Prajāpati. Nahuṣa, you have done what should not be done; because of you we shall come to fear.'

This story on the sanctity of cows must never be used to justify threats, violence or harassment against any person or community; such acts are crimes and the opposite of the non-harming this chapter teaches. For danger, call 112.
