12.276.13 Narada to Galava

teṣāṃ teṣāṃ tathā hi tvamāśramāṇāṃ tatastataḥ | nānārūpaguṇoddeśaṃ paśya viprasthitaṃ pṛthak | nayanti caiva te samyagabhipretamasaṃśayam ||

For see, Gālava, how each of these stages of life, one after another, sets out its own forms, qualities and aims and goes its separate way. Yet they lead rightly, without doubt, to the goal intended.

Meaning today and context

Paths can look very different on the outside and still lead somewhere true. Difference of form is not proof that one is wrong.

Mahabharata 12.276.13 (a six-line verse): Nārada tells Gālava that though the stages of life look different, each leads rightly to its goal.
