दण्डो यत्राविनीतेषु सत्कारश्च कृतात्मसु । चरेत्तत्र वसेच्चैव पुण्यशीलेषु साधुषु ॥
daṇḍo yatrāvinīteṣu satkāraśca kṛtātmasu | carettatra vaseccaiva puṇyaśīleṣu sādhuṣu ||
Where there is punishment for the unruly and honour for the self-disciplined, there one should practise and live, among good people of virtuous habit.
जहाँ उद्दंडों को दंड और संयमी लोगों का सत्कार होता हो, वहीं पुण्यशील सज्जनों के बीच आचरण करे और निवास करे।
Punishment here means fair accountability under law and rules, not violence or harsh treatment of anyone, including children.
यहाँ दंड का अर्थ नियम और कानून के अनुसार उचित जवाबदेही है, किसी के प्रति हिंसा या कठोर व्यवहार नहीं, बच्चों के प्रति भी नहीं।
