śiśnodare ye'bhiratāḥ sadaiva stenā narā vākparuṣāśca nityam | apetadoṣāniti tānviditvā dūrāddevāḥ saṃparivarjayanti ||
Men who are always devoted to the genitals and the belly, thieves, and those ever harsh of speech: even if they are [thought to be] rid of their faults, the gods, knowing them for what they are, keep far away from them.
This describes habits, not people to be shunned or labelled. Anyone can change; it is not a licence to look down on anyone.

Outward purification cannot hide a life ruled by appetite, theft and harsh words. What we habitually do and say is what we really are.
Mahabharata 12.288.36. The Swan: the gods keep far from those given over to lust and gluttony, thieves and the harsh-tongued, even when they seem cleansed of faults.
