Mokshadharma 12.171.38

atattvajño'si bālaśca dustoṣo'pūraṇo'nalaḥ | naiva tvaṃ vettha sulabhaṃ naiva tvaṃ vettha durlabham ||

You do not know what is real; you are a child, hard to please, never filled, a fire. You know neither what is easy to get nor what is hard.

Meaning today and context

Desire wants without weighing cost or possibility, like a child or a fire that takes whatever is fed to it. Seeing it this way lets you treat it with patience rather than obedience.

In the story Bhishma tells (12.171), Mankin speaks to himself and to Desire after losing his last wealth, describing Desire: ignorant, childish, never satisfied, a fire that cannot be filled.
