Mokshadharma 12.171.44

tṛptaḥ svasthendriyo nityaṃ yathālabdhena vartayan | na sakāmaṃ kariṣyāmi tvāmahaṃ śatrumātmanaḥ ||

Content, my senses at ease, always living on whatever comes my way, I will not let you have your wish, you enemy of my own self.

Giving up desire here means inner freedom from craving, not leaving work, family, or the care of those who depend on you.

Meaning today and context

Being content with what you have, rather than always reaching, keeps desire from becoming the enemy within. It is about inner contentment, not refusing to work.

In the story Bhishma tells (12.171), Mankin speaks to himself and to Desire after losing his last wealth: content, with senses at ease, living on what comes, he will not let Desire, his own enemy, have its way.
