12.173.32 The jackal (Indra) to Kashyapa

pāṇimanto dhanairyuktā balavanto na saṃśayaḥ | manuṣyā mānuṣaireva dāsatvamupapāditāḥ ||

Those with hands, with wealth, and with strength, no doubt, are people; yet people are reduced to servitude by other people.

Meaning today and context

Even advantages do not guarantee freedom; people with strength and money suffer too. No situation is all gain or all loss.

Mahabharata 12.173.32: Indra, disguised as a jackal, speaks to the despairing sage Kashyapa: even humans with hands, wealth and strength are made into slaves by other humans.
