A craving is easiest to drop at the moment it arises, before we feed it with attention. Not engaging with every passing urge is a real strength; it takes away the power of the very thing that would wear us down.
Sanatsujata describes the one who conquers death: one who, knowing this, strikes down desires as they arise by paying them no regard, becomes death to death itself.
