Sanatsujatiya 2.1

2.1 Dhritarashtra to Sanatsujata

The twice-born who studies the Rig and Yajur verses and the Sama Veda: if he commits sins, is he stained by sin or is he not?

Meaning today and context

We sometimes assume learning, status or religious practice exempts a person from consequences. Dhritarashtra asks whether it really does.

Chapter 2 (MBh 5.43) opens with Dhritarashtra asking whether one who has studied all the Vedas is still stained by the sins he commits.
