Because his [resolve] is unsteady, he should keep the vow of one consecrated. This name [satya] is formed from its root: truth alone is highest for the good. Knowledge is direct; austerity bears its fruit out of sight.

When our resolve wavers, a commitment, a vow, helps hold us steady. Truth is the ground of all goodness; understanding shows itself directly, while disciplined effort often bears fruit unseen.
A compressed verse: Sanatsujata speaks of keeping a vow of consecration when one's resolve is unsteady, says the word satya comes from a root (sat, 'what is') and is the highest for the good, and contrasts direct knowledge with the hidden fruit of austerity.
