Sanatsujatiya 2.33

2.33 Sanatsujata to Dhritarashtra

tasya paryeṣaṇaṃ gacchetprācīnaṃ nota dakṣiṇam | nārvācīnaṃ kutastiryaṅnādiśaṃ tu kathaṃ cana ||

In searching for That, one should go neither east nor south, nor west, still less across, nor in any direction at all.

Meaning today and context

What we are looking for in the deepest sense is not in some far-off place. Pilgrimages and journeys have their value, but the search finally turns inward.

Sanatsujata says that in seeking That (Brahman, or the Self), one need not travel in any direction: east, south, west, across, or anywhere at all.
