Sanatsujatiya 4.1

4.1 Sanatsujata to Dhritarashtra

yattacchukraṃ mahajjyotirdīpyamānaṃ mahadyaśaḥ | tadvai devā upāsante yasmādarko virājate | yoginastaṃ prapaśyanti bhagavantaṃ sanātanam ||

That pure, great light, blazing, a great glory, which the gods worship, by which the sun shines: the yogins see that eternal Lord.

Meaning today and context

The light by which we see everything is not itself one of the things we see. In stillness, the yogins turn toward that light, and the Sanatsujatiya says it is the Lord.

Sanatsujata begins his final chapter on the vision of the Lord. Each verse ends with the refrain 'the yogins see that eternal Lord'. Here he names it as the bright, great light the gods worship and by which the sun shines.
