hiraṇyaparṇamaśvatthamabhipatya apakṣakāḥ | te tatra pakṣiṇo bhūtvā prapatanti yathādiśam | yoginastaṃ prapaśyanti bhagavantaṃ sanātanam ||

Wingless ones, coming to the aśvattha tree with golden leaves, become birds there and fly off, each in its own direction. The yogins see that eternal Lord.

Meaning today and context

Beings come to the tree of the world, take on new forms and scatter on their own paths. The image invites us to see our lives as one round in a larger movement, and to look for what does not come and go.

Sanatsujata gives an image of rebirth: wingless ones reach the golden-leaved aśvattha tree, grow wings there and fly off in all directions.
